Cornwell Center Family Fun
The Cornwell Center hosted an event titled Fall Family Festival.  The event consisted of a 1k fun run, a 5k race, and the festival activities.  The proceeds were donated to the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte.  This event gave our student-athletes the opportunity to interact, reach out, and promote Queens University of Charlotte Athletics to the Myers Park community.  The student athlete advisory committee, women’s soccer, volleyball, and cross country teams were all there in support of the event. More information can be found here.

2008-2009 Community Engagement

During the busy fall season for athletics, the student-athletes at Queens University of Charlotte still found time to give back to the community in many ways.  They volunteered in walks, helped build parks, helped clean up parks, and spent time with children in need.  Below are some details of community involvement in which the student-athletes participated.

Eastway Middle School
The women’s basketball team of Queens University of Charlotte traveled to Eastway Middle School on October 8, 2008 to speak with students.  They engaged with the students at the middle school to discuss what it means to stay in school, do well, and go to college.  Queens student-athletes are constantly looking for ways to establish a presence in the community here in Charlotte.

Levine Children’s Hospital
On Halloween this year, the Queens University of Charlotte women’s soccer team volunteered their time at the Levine Children’s Hospital here in Charlotte.  The student-athletes interacted with the children and helped them with trick or treating, carving pumpkins, handing out candy, and just helping celebrate the holiday.  The children in the hospital could not go out for the day due to their illnesses and the women’s soccer team helped in making their Halloween a fun and special day.

Marion Diehl Soccer Clinic
The men’s soccer team gave back to the community on November 13, 2008.  They hosted a soccer clinic at the Queens Sports Complex for special needs children of all ages.  This event gave us the opportunity to engage with our partners at Marion Diehl through the game of soccer.  The student-athletes worked with the children showing them different soccer skills and just making sure the children enjoyed themselves while playing the sport.
