Queens Ready to Welcome Davidson and North Alabama

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte baseball team is prepped for a full week at The Stick beginning Tuesday night when they host crosstown foe Davidson College. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on ESPN Plus. Following the Tuesday tilt, the Royals will return to ASUN play when they host North Alabama for a three-game series this weekend.

QUEENS ROYALS (11-33 overall, 7-14 ASUN)
  • Queens enters Tuesday night on a six-game losing skid and looking to get back on the right track. The Royals suffered a tough three-game sweep at Jacksonville as the offense only managed to plate nine total runs.
  • Heading into the new week, the Royals have belted a single-season program record 76 home runs. The mark is second most in the ASUN and top 30 nationally.
  • Charlotte native Dillon Lewis has been on a tear this season hitting a team-high .377 with 13 doubles and a single-season program record 17 home runs. The junior ranks top 10 in the league in batting average, hits, doubles, home runs, RBIs, and stolen bases.
  • Senior Tyler Cotto has been a tough out at the plate this season hitting .285 with nine doubles and 11 home runs, a mark that is second on the team. In addition to swinging a hot bat, the Arizona native has drawn a team-high 28 walks.
  • Matthew Corlew has rounded into form at the plate during the second half of the season. The EKU transfer is riding a five-game hitting streak while also swiping 12 bases which is second most on the team.
  • Will Budnick, Zach Weston, and Nick Alderfer have been consistent starters in the corner infield for the Royals. The trio is combining to hit .257 with 18 doubles and 15 home runs.
  • Since entering the starting lineup in the Lipscomb series, junior Andrew McDermott is hitting .342 with 16 runs scored, two doubles, five home runs, and seven RBIs. Against Kennesaw State, the outfielder went 4-for-9 at the plate with four runs scored and an RBI.
  • On the mound, the Royals have struck out 290 batters, a mark that is fourth most in a single season in program history. Kansas State transfer Landry Jurecka leads the Royals with 58 strikeouts.
  • The pitching staff has struggled to prevent free base runners this season surrendering the most walks in the conference. Queens is averaging 7.1 walks per game and has issued 10 or more walks on 11 occasions.
DAVIDSON WILDCATS (17-25 overall, 4-11 ATLANTIC 10)
  • Davidson is coming off a three-game sweep at Dayton over the weekend. The Wildcats were outscored by the Flyers 26-18.
  • Davidson has struggled on the road so far this season going 2-15 with their only road wins coming at North Carolina A&T and Tennessee Tech.
  • The Wildcats present a big offense that is hitting .277 on the year, including a league-leading 55 home runs.
  • Junior Eli Putnam leads the Wildcats with a .358 batting average with 12 doubles and 13 home runs. Putnam ranks third in the league in average and leads the league in home runs.
  • Right-handed batter Noah Jouras is second on the squad with a .339 average, including seven doubles, four triples, and four home runs.
  • Wilson Perkins has been the top arm for the Wildcats holding a 4-4 record across a team-high 63.1 innings. The right-hander holds a 5.83 ERA.
  • Jason Ban and Matt Weber have been two consistent bullpen arms for the Wildcats. Ban has a team-high two saves and Weber has made 12 appearances and holds a 5.17 ERA.
NORTH ALABAMA LIONS (14-27 overall, 6-15 ASUN)
  • North Alabama enters the new week on a five-game losing skid. The Lions head to Middle Tennessee State on Tuesday before hosting Samford on Wednesday for a pair of midweek games.
  • The Lions offense is hitting .251 on the year, a mark that is last in the league. The Lions sit in the middle of the pack in doubles and home runs.
  • North Alabama takes care of their business defensively hoisting a .969 fielding percentage which is tied for fourth in the league.
  • James Jacob has been the leader of the North Alabama pitching staff. The senior lefty is 4-4 on the year and holds a 4.75 ERA across 60.2 innings pitched. Jacob is ninth in the conference in ERA and has thrown the third most innings in the ASUN.
  • Brycen Parrish is a reliable arm out of the bullpen making 14 appearances and holding a 4.38 ERA.
  • Frei Gehrig is a key bat for the Lions hitting .338 on the year which is top 20 in the conference. The infielder leads the team with 11 doubles and 11 home runs.
  • Kyle Machado has been another consistent bat hitting .303 with six doubles, one triple, and five home runs.
