Queens Secures Series Win at North Alabama

FLORENCE, Ala. – The Queens University of Charlotte softball team (20-22, 10-10) secured a pivotal series win this afternoon defeating North Alabama (27-13-1, 9-10-1) 2-0 in game one and 4-1 in game two. With the wins, Queens jumps into seventh place in the league standings.

GAME 1
Kaylee DeJesus recorded two RBIs in the first game of the day to lead the Royals to victory. She first smashed a ball over the fence for a home run in the top of the fifth to give the Royals a 1-0 lead before recording a double in the top of the seventh to bring Kasidi Staley home for the two-run lead.

The Royals' freshman standout pitcher Courtney Autumn recorded her seventh shutout of the season to move to 14-7 on the year. She struck out five batters and allowed just four hits in the game.

Staley and Emma Frye also recorded hits in the win.

GAME 2
Queens' batters got hot in the top of the third when a pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases ahead of Caroline Johnson stepping up to the plate. Johnson would blast a grand slam on the play to put the Royals on top, 4-0.

The Lions looked to respond in the bottom of the third, loading the bases and scoring one run. However, Courtney would reenter the game for Queens sending the next three batters back to the dugout.

Courtney closed the game pitching five perfect relief innings to move to 15-7 on the season.

Jordyn Thompson and Kayla Smith recorded hits in the win.
