NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's triathlon team finished second overall at the 2016 Women's Collegiate Triathlon National Championships on Saturday, November 5, 2016. The Royals fell just shy of reclaiming the crown by three points of Arizona State University who tabbed this year's national title. The Royals competed against Division I, II, and III schools following the Olympic Draft-Legal format.

"I couldn't be more proud of how our women rose to the occasion, faced more than our share of adversity, and again placed themselves on a collegiate National Championship podium," said Head Coach Sonni Dyer. "We've been to three national championships since this program began, and never finished lower than the second podium step competing against DI schools. Anytime, anywhere, they are truly giant-killers."

Arizona State finished the competition with 10 points followed by the Royals with 13 points. UC Berkeley grabbed third place with 28 points as Texas A&M took fourth with 54 points. The competition was rounded out by East Tennessee State University in fifth with 55 points, NC State in sixth with 59 points, North Central College in seventh with 69 points, University of West Alabama in eighth with 78 points, Centenary College in ninth with 82 points and Black Hills State University in 10th place with 87 points.

Jocelyn Bonney claimed a spot on the podium as she crossed the finish line in third place. She took a time of 1:02:25 to lead the team during the competition. Bonney also laid claim to the fastest running split of the day across all competitors, racing for a 17:48.

Tereza Zimovjanova finished second for the team and fourth in the competition grabbing a time of 1:03.15. Despite choppy water conditions, Zimovjanova took the fastest split time in the swim portion of the race, finishing with a 9:09. The next closest competitor, Charlotte Ahrens of Arizona State, tabbed a split of 9:21.

Jessica Tomasek and Tegan Scott managed to bridge the Royals critical third-scorer, Caroline Condon, into scoring position before the second-transition for the run. Condon secured a time of 1:05.53 to round out the competition for the team.
