CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte department of athletics announces the addition of men's volleyball on the back of a historically fruitful 2015-16 season. The addition of men's volleyball will provide athletes in the sport the opportunity to compete at a high level collegiately in a state of the art facility, the Levine Center. It will also bring the Royals' count of NCAA sports to 20.
"The addition of men's volleyball is a great complement to our department and the opportunities that Queens provides to participate in intercollegiate athletics," said
Cherie Swarthout, director of athletics. We look forward with great anticipation to having the sport on our campus, and seeing its contributions to the University."
With just a combined total of 46 men's volleyball teams competing at NCAA Division I and II institutions, there are only two levels of play. NCAA Division III teams compete amongst each other, while Division I and II schools compete together at the Division I level. Two other schools in the South Atlantic Conference currently sponsor the sport. Coker College has been competing since 2013, while Lincoln Memorial University will embark on their inaugural season this coming spring.
Queens, looking to begin NCAA competition in spring 2018, will conduct a search for a coach immediately so that recruiting can begin. The link to the job descript is below.
