Women’s basketball defeated in conference opener

Box Score MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team traveled to compete against Pfeiffer University in the Conference Carolinas Tournament quarterfinal round, falling 75-59 to the Falcons. Queens ends its season at 13-14, while the Falcons advance to the semifinal round with a 23-5 record. They will face Barton College on Friday.
 
Shonice Pettaway (Walstonburg, N.C., Greene Central) finished the game with a double-double after scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. She also collected three assist and two blocks. Sarah Myatt (Show Camp, N.C., Southern Alamance) was Queens' next leading scorer with 10 points to go along with her seven rebounds. Lacey Singletary (Burlington, N.C., Oak Ridge) added eight points, while Dyonna Battle (Rocky Mount, N.C., Rocky Mount) pulled down six boards.
 
Queens got off to a great start, jumping out to a 6-2 lead. Three ties would follow before the Falcons took over the lead for good with a layup at 11:04. An 11-2 run would allow them to stretch their lead out to as much as nine, forcing a timeout from the Royals. Queens would cut the lead back down to four, 36-32, by the half.
 
A 5-0 run at the start of the second brought the Royals to within one, 38-37, of the Falcons, but Pfeiffer would respond with a 13-2 push to pull ahead by 12, 51-39, with 14:10 to play. Queens' Tia Hudgins (Rocky Mount, N.C., Rocky Mount) brought the Royals to within eight, 66-58, with three minutes left to play, but that was as close as the visiting team would get as Pfeiffer extended its lead to 16 before the final horn sounded.
 
The Falcons had five different players reach double-figures in scoring with Christina Harvey's 17 points leading the way. Harvey also collected 12 rebounds to record a double-double. Also recording a double-double was Jodie Lemons who scored 15 points and totaled 21 rebounds.
