Box Score BELMONT, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team ended its Conference Carolinas Tournament run this evening after falling 93-85 at Belmont Abbey College in the quarterfinal round. With the loss, the Royals end their season at 15-12. The Crusaders improve their record to 20-9, and will advance to face Barton College.
In a first half where the Royals opened with all the momentum, going up 6-2, turnovers proved to be costly. The Crusaders were able to convert the Royals' 11 turnovers into 14 points as they were able to take over control of the lead. At the half, Queens'
Antonio Stabler (Garner, N.C., Wakefield) led the Royals with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting, while Terrone Sheffey of Belmont Abbey led his team with 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Queens would trail 42-35 at the break.
Queens trailed the Crusaders up until a baseline jumper from Stabler made things all even at 53-53 with 13:30 to play. The Royals would hold on to the lead for the majority of the next 10 minutes of action going up by as much as five on a few occasions. However, an eight point swing would return the lead to the Crusaders, giving them a 79-76 advantage as the clock approached two minutes.
Stabler would tie the game back up at 79-79 after knocking down a pair of free-throws, but the Crusaders would close with a 14-4 run to take the win.
Stabler finished the game with 28 points and six rebounds, while
Brandon Nichols (Fayetteville, N.C., Jack Britt) totaled 20 points.
David Mason (Decatur, Ga., Chamblee) and
Joby Glymph (Lexington, S.C., Lexington) added 13 and 11, respectively.
Tre McLean (Charleston, S.C., West Ashley) led under the glass with 11 rebounds.
Sheffey led all on the court with 31 points. Tyshawn Good scored 21 points after shooting a perfect 13-of-13 from the foul line. Darryl Durham and Jay Council added 15 and 13, respectively. The Crusaders shot 92 percent from the free-throw line as a team.
