CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte head coach
Katie Talbert is pleased to announce two more additions to the women's soccer incoming class.
Carly Haslerig will come to the Royals from Zionsville, Ind., where she attends Zionsville Community High School. The newcomer has experience at both the forward and midfield positions, and was named the 2011 Most Improved Player. Haslerig plays club for USAI Premiere.
"We're excited about the intelligence and athleticism that Carly brings up top,” said Coach Talbert. “Her movement on and off the ball makes her incredibly dangerous in the attacking third and will help our front line in both depth and goal scoring."
Cassandra Nelson is a forward coming from Concord, N.C., where she attends Jay M. Robinson High School. Nelson has lettered on the varsity team all four years of her high school career. The scholar athlete has been named to the all-conference and all-region teams as well. Following her junior season, she ranked sixth on Jay M. Robinson's all-time scoring list with 35 goals and 19 assists in conference games. Nelson plays club for Lake Norman Eclipse, helping them reach the North
Carolina Cup Final Four in 2011 and 2010. In 2011, they won the Premier Division.
Off the field, Nelson has been a regular on the A/B Honor Roll. She is also a part of the International Thespian Society and the French Club, along with being a coach for Kicking for Hunger (K4H). K4H works to bring free soccer to children between the ages of eight and 13, while also bringing food into local communities.
"We believe Cassie can be an immediate threat for our 2013 squad,” said Coach Talbert. “She has pace, tenacity, and finesse allowing her to create multiple scoring opportunities for herself and others in the attack. She will help our entire front line become more competitive in both training and in games."
Haselrig and Nelson will join 14 other newcomers in the fall.
