The Royals defeated NGU 83-73.

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Royals will advance to the semifinal round of the 2012 Conference Carolinas Men's Basketball Tournament after defeating the Crusaders of North Greenville University 83-73. Queens University of Charlotte (19-9) will move on to face Barton College who defeated Belmont Abbey College 94-74.

Daniel Bailey (Irmo, S.C., Hammond ) led the Royals with 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting giving him 1757 points in his career, 53 less than all-time leading scorer Reggie HopkinsAntonio Stabler (Garner, N.C., Wakefield) scored 18 points going a perfect 7-for-7 from the foul line. Brandon Nichols (Fayetteville, N.C., Jack Britt) added 16 points, while Brent Evans (Beaufort, S.C., Battery Creek) recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Jimmy Ellis led the Crusaders scoring 22 points. Paul Harrison added 20 points, while Zack Shields and Jason Wray scored 12 and 10, respectively.

Bailey and Stabler got hot early for Queens scoring the first 17 points of the game for the Royals. Queens found themselves with an 11-point lead, 29-18, with 3:49 to go in the first before the Crusaders got into a rhythm closing the half with a 10-2 run.

Queens quickly built their lead back out to 10 in the opening minutes of the second behind five points from Stabler. At the 12-minute mark Harrison of North Greenville cut Queens' lead to two after getting sent the foul line on a made bucket. However, Bailey responded with a basket from three-point land helping the Royals stay ahead going up by as much as eight.

The Crusaders would not go down easy though as Ellis knocked down a three-pointer with 5:14 to play making the score 64-62. A 7-2 run combined with desperation fouls from North Greenville would help Queens put the Crusaders away.  A steal and dunk from Nichols with 25 ticks on the clock would seal the deal.

Queens will host the Bulldogs of Barton College on Friday at 7 p.m. at Johnson and Wales University. For directions click here.
