Mauney set to join Royals in the New Year

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte's Katie Talbert, head women's soccer coach, announces the addition of Lydia Mauney to her program following the early signing period. Mauney, a defender, will join the Royals next semester after completing high school early.

“We are very excited to have Lydia joining us this spring,” said Coach Talbert. “Her high school and club coaches have provided her excellent training that will allow her to jump right in with our current squad.”

Mauney
Mauney attended high school at Watauga in Boone, N.C., where she competed on the varsity squad all three years of her career. The newcomer also played club for the Lake Norman Soccer Club. In 2009, her U15 Eclipse Lake Norman Soccer team traveled to Europe where they won the Dana Cup in Denmark and the Lions Gold Cup in Germany.

Off the field, the National Honor Society member has also made her mark. Upon graduation, the Health Occupations Students of America Club member and officer will graduate with her CNA License. Mauney is also a member of the Beta Club, SADD, Young Life and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Additionally, Mauney demonstrates the Queens motto, “Not to be served, but to serve,” by making time to participate in many community service projects with youth ministry groups at Boone United Methodist Church and St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church.

Mauney plans to major in nursing at Queens.
