SUMTER, S.C. – Christiaan Lee-Daigle (Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada, L'Essor Secondary School) defeated Oliver Simonet of Columbus State University 6-0, 6-2 in the finals today taking the ITA Regional Individual title. Lee-Daigle was seeded third in the “A” draw entering the tournament over the weekend in Sumter, S.C.
The three-time Conference Carolinas Individual Tournament Champion defeated all but one of his opponents in two sets of play only dropping one set to Sven Lalic of Armstrong Atlantic State University in the quarterfinals.
Christopher Kennedy (Colorado Springs, Colo., TCA) competed in the men's singles “B” draw falling 6-1, 7-5 to Henric Falkenberg of Mount Olive College.
The Royals also found success in doubles action with Lee-Daigle and
Raahil Dhruva (London, England, Parmiter's) seeded third in the men's doubles “A” draw. The pair reached the quarterfinal round meeting their match in Lander University's Oscar Axelsson and Adam Jonsson. Lander advanced to the semifinals with an 8-4 win.
The women faced some tough competition over the weekend as
Erin Williams (Arden, N.C., T.C. Roberson) was the only Royal to advance out of the opening round in singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Eliza Adusumilli of Lander. In doubles,
Elena Mileva (Sofia, Bulgaria, First Private English Language School) and
Morgan Roberts (Fort Pierce, Fla., Treasure Coast) were the lone pair to win their opening round match. They defeated Cayce Bradley and Aurelia Ruffat of Lander in a close match by a score of 9-8.
