Young wins the award for the first time in her career.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Rosa Young (Spartanburg, South Carolina, Dorman Roebuck High School) of the women's track and field team has been named the female InterCon Student-Athlete of the Month for her top notch performances during the month of April.

Young had a phenomenal month both setting and improving the school record three times while also posting two NCAA national qualifying marks in the 3k steeplechase. She also won a Conference Carolinas championship title in the 1500-meters.

Young started the month off with a commanding win at the Johnson C. Smith Invitational besting a DI/DII combined field with a school record 11:21.23 in the 3k steeplechase, the toughest event in track and field which consists of a 7.5 lap distance event with 28 hurdles and seven water jumps. Over the course of the month, Young would improve the school record in the steeple two more times and establish herself as one of the top steeplers in the country.

At the Conference Carolinas Championship Young contributed to the Royals' fourth place finish with a conference title in the 1500-meters, and a runner-up finish in the 800-meters on the same day. Besides contributing a school high point total of 18, Young earned an All-Conference First Team award for the win, as well as an All-Conference Second Team award for the runner-up finish.

Young then turned her attention to the national stage, winning the Southeast Region Championship 3k steeplechase with a NCAA national qualifying mark of 11:03.17, moving Queens' school record forward. Her next attempt at the Gina Relays, improved her school record and NCAA mark with an 11:03.05.

Young finished the month ranked 16th in the nation for the 3k Steeplechase event.
