CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte Department of Athletics is pleased to announce
Nelson Mwangi (Kenya, Nairobi School) as the March Male InterCon Student-Athlete of the Month. This is the second time Mwangi has won, having been selected in March of 2010.
Mwangi capped of his indoor collegiate career by nabbing two NCAA All-American awards at the NCAA DII National Indoor Track Championships on March 11-12.
Mwangi assisted the Royals distance medley relay team in finishing fourth at the NCAA Championships and managed, on the same day, to also qualify for the finals in the open 800-meters by finishing fifth in his heat with a time of 1:53.82.
On the second day of the NCAA Championships, Mwangi earned his second All-American honor of the season with a fifth place finish of 1:53.04 in the 800.
Here are a few questions to get to know Nelson better.
Q: This is your second time to earn the Student-Athlete of the month award, how does it feel?
A: It's great. I feel satisfied and appreciated.
Q: How do you feel about your indoor track season? What are you looking forward to about outdoor track?
A: It went very well and I think I progressed very quickly. Running in the relay was very exciting. I hope to run a sub 1.50 in the 800m during the outdoor season.
