CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Queens women's swimmer Caitlin Seed (Macedonia, Ohio) has become the first women's swimmer to be named an InterCon Student-Athlete of the Month. Seed wins the monthly honor for her efforts during the month of February.
Seed became the first Royals swimmer, male or female, to win a conference championship. She captured the 50 freestyle title with her NCAA qualifying and school record time of 23.50-seconds.
Later in the championship meet she finished in second place in the 100 backstroke with another school record time and a NCAA automatic qualifying time of 56.34s.
For the meet she was three-time All-Conference.
“Winning the Intercon Student-Athlete of the Month award is quite an honor knowing the type of athletes Queens coaches recruit put on the field, court, or in the pool month after month,” said Head Swimming Coach Jeff Dugdale. “Caitlin has done it all for us, she is our leader in and out of the pool with her listed achievements and she also leads the way in the classroom with 4.0.”
“Caitlin is a blessing to both our program and myself as she is responsible for helping lay the foundation for the future. Thank you, Caitlin.”
Director of Sports Information Sarah Waple sat down with Caitlin to ask her a few questions.
Q: How does it feel to be Student Athlete of the month?
A: It feels great to be student-athlete of the month. There are a lot of talented athletes nominated this month and it was an honor to be chosen.
Q: Can you compare DI swimming to DII swimming?
A:The major difference between Division I and Division II swimming, for me, has been the pressure. I found that in Division II it is a much more relaxed atmosphere and there is a lot more time to focus on all aspects of your life, which, for me, has helped me to do my best.
Q:This season marks your last season of collegiate swimming, what are some of your best memories? Do you have any regrets?
A: I don't have any regrets from my swimming career. It has provided many opportunities for me in my life that otherwise wouldn't have been possible. Most importantly, swimming has introduced me to some of the most important people in my life. My best memories have come from the relationships I have had with my teammates from every swim team I have been on, from Hudson High School, to Clemson, to Queens.
