Queens Athletics is proud to announce the selection of men's basketball's
Reggie Hopkins (Gastonia, N.C., Ashbrook) as the male InterCon Student-Athlete of the Month.
Winning the award for the second month in a row, the senior guard led the Royals to a perfect 9-0 January while putting together one of the most proficient stretches in the program's history.
Hopkins went 52-for-104 from the field, including 32-of-64 from deep, to shoot 50 percent from the field while averaging 22.1 points per game. The scoring spree bumped his season average to 19.1 ppg – good for fourth highest in the Conference Carolinas. Though leading the team in scoring, he also looked to get his teammates involved, leading the Royals with 3.2 assists per game in January.
His efforts on the court extended from facilitating the offense to directing one of DII's most prolific defenses. Holding their opponents to 60.8 ppg on 37.4 percent shooting during the January slate, the Royals currently rank 8th in field goal-percentage defense (38 percent) and 21st in scoring defense (64 ppg) in DII.
