CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens Athletics is proud to recognize
Reggie Hopkins (Gastonia, N.C., Ashbrook) of the men's basketball team as the male InterCon Student-Athlete of the Month for his efforts during the month of December.
Hopkins led the Royals to a 3-0 month, including a 65-50 win over Conference Carolinas rival Coker. Leading the Royals in scoring each game, he averaged 18.3 points, 3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.3 assists per game.
He kicked off the month with a 17-point performance on six-of-nine shooting in the Royals' conference opener at Coker. His encore against Tusculum included 18 points, three assists, and two steals in the Royals' 57-56 win heading into the holiday break. Hopkins proved he could perform down the stretch in the team's final game of the month, scoring 20 points with six rebounds, and six assists to bring the Royals back from an 18-point deficit to defeat Fayetteville State 79-77 in the Oven.
Hopkins' strong December performances were recognized in week three of the season, as he was dubbed the Conference Carolinas men's basketball Player of the Week.
