Charlotte, NC-  Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer will host the first annual "Kick for Queens" fundraiser on August 28th at 8:30am at the Queens Sports Complex at Marion Diehl Park.  All proceeds will fund a service trip for the women's soccer program to Nicaragua during Queens' 2011 spring break. This trip will build upon the service component of Queens' values:  Responsibility and service to the society at large expressed in the Queens motto, "Not to be served, but to serve."

Through the vessel of soccer, this trip will engage Queens student athletes into a service driven international experience that will uplift many important values in social responsibility & community, promoting diversity, gaining cultural respect for others, and recognizing their own unique ability to initiate positive change in communities.

Queens will incorporate in this trip the mission of PeacePassers.org.  PeacePassers is an organization co-founded by Queens soccer alumna, Candace Cooper. Through a collaborative approach PeacePassers mission serves to collect and distribute soccer supplies to people and communities throughout the world. Queens will partner with PeacePassers through soccer clinics and equipment donations that support team development to empower youth and maximize hope for all participants. Utilizing the expertise of ComunidadConnect.org (San Juan del Sur's local sports organization) is also essential to ensure a positive economic impact on the communities the team works in by using only local service providers and vendors, and to provide a rich cultural experience for the players.

"This is an amazing opportunity for our program. PeacePassers and the Charlotte community are allowing us the experience to change other's lives as well as our own.  I am thrilled to work with Candace and the Comunidad Connect with this trip to provide our student-athletes this experience of growing on and off the field," commented head coach, Katie Talbert.

For anyone interested in attending Kick for Queens or helping support this effort please contact Katie Talbert at 704-337-2540 or talbertk@queens.edu or click here to donate.
