CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Queens University of Charlotte men’s lacrosse program will welcome 24 new members to campus this fall as they look to improve on last year’s top-10 finish. Members of the Class of 2014 include Steve Nixon, Taylor Wade, Stoan Waldrup, Will Dempsey, Travis Heins, Chris Troyer, Ross Radcliffe, Gianmarino Gianfrate, Drew Stansley, who will be the third member of the Stansley family to play for Queens, Colin Buckley, Matt Nehring , Chris Fast, Thomas Pham, Drew Nakamura, Mike Coyle, Owen Murphy, Andrew Hyland, Jason Cazzupe, Graham Kawula, Sean Forbes, Pat Murphy, Dillon Draper, Scott Hornik and Rob Berman.
The class is composed of a number of team captains, All-State, and All-America selections. Many of the recruits helped lead their teams to the state playoffs; Nehring and Forbes helped Corning East to the New York State Final while Hornick and Kawula both won state championships in their career. The incoming class is filled with multi-sport stars, including Waldrop who was selected as the athlete of the year at his high school.
Ten states as well as Canada are represented in the class: Maryland, Massachusetts, Connecticut, North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, Georgia, Minnesota, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
Head coach Jim Fritz is enthusiastic about the potential of the incoming class.
“I feel this is a very athletic and skilled class that will be the key to our success in the future, said Fritz.
“We like to have players who have had success, know how to win, have been leaders, and have played more than one sport and I think we got that with this class. While it is a large class, we also have a large senior and junior class on our roster. We feel the incoming freshman will not only make their mark soon, but in the future as well. I am excited about what they will bring to our program”
