CHARLOTTE, N.C.- After two solid rounds of play in the 2010 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship at the Sagamore Club in Noblesville, Ind., the Royals golf team struggled to find a rhythm in the third round, falling out of the top 10 into 16
th place.
The team shot 327 on the day, the round high and 22 strokes more than their best of 305 in the second round. Chico State overcame Florida Southern to take to top spot and holds a one shot lead over the Mocs, +34.
Round two leader
Ben Lasso (Falls Church, Va., Heritage Academy) is tied for 10
th after carding a +10 in the round. His three day total of 225 puts him nine-over for the tournament.
David Bainbridge (England, Thomas Alleynes) was the only Royal to hold steady in the tough round, carding another six-over-par day, his second of the tournament.
As a team, Queens had just nine birdies, a drastic change from the day before when Lasso alone had seven.
Queens has some ground to make up in the final round starting at 7:30am Friday morning, but it can be done as the Royals jumped from 10th in the South/Southeast Regional to finish fifth and earn the bid to the national championship.
