CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Queens University of Charlotte is proud to announce
Brandon Macknew (Abington, Md., Bel Air) as the April InterCon Male Student-Athlete of the Month. This is the first time Macknew has been named the InterCon Student-Athlete of the Month and he is the second men's lacrosse player to win the award this year.
“Brandon really had not only a great month but a great all around season,” said Head Men's Lacrosse Coach
Jim Fritz. “Besides being named first team All-Conference, he is up for all-American as well. I feel he really stepped up his game this year and it was a big reason for our success.”
Macknew averaged 12 saves per game with a save percentage of 60.7% during the month of April. The Royals faced the top six scorers in the country during the month and Macknew allowed just three goals for those six players. Overall, he helped the Royals to a 2-2 record for the month and earn the No. 2 seed in the Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship.
For his efforts during the season Macknew was named first team All-Conference.
Members of the sports information office caught up with Brandon and asked him a few questions.
How does it feel to be Student Athlete of the month?
It's a great honor to receive this award. I feel like this is in recognition of all the hard work our entire team and coaching staff put in this year, and none it would've been possible without everyone involved.
What are your career goals?
Once I graduate I hope to come back to Maryland and find in a marketing department, for a big company in Baltimore. I also would like to come back to my high school and be a lacrosse coach.
