Men's lacrosse moves up to No. 7 in national rankings

Men's lacrosse moved up to No. 7 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's April 4th rankings -- its highest ranking in school history.

Last week the Royals split a pair of intense matches: losing to Conference Carolinas rival No. 4 Limestone College on Wednesday and winning at Catawba College on Saturday.

Royals head coach Jim Fritz acknowledges the achievement, but contends there is work left to be done.

"We are excited about moving up and where we are, but our guys know that we still have goals we need to accomplish."

The jump in the rankings is accompanied by the good news that senior Brian Masterson (Toledo, Ohio, St. John's Jesuit) was named the Conference Carolinas men's lacrosse Player of the Week. Masterson, winning the award for the second time this season, is accompanied by Corey Geroy (Horseheads, N.Y., Horseheads) and Brandon Macknew (Abington, Md., Bel Air) on the list of Royals who have earned the weekly honor during the 2010 campaign.

“Brian had a great week with two big games. It really shows the hard work he has put in all year”

Looking forward, the Royals direct their attention to Senior Day on Saturday, April 10th when they welcome No. 10 Mars Hill (9-3) for a 1:00 p.m. match.
