CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte is proud to announce the selection of its 39th-ranked women’s tennis team (10-0 CC, 19-1 overall) to the NCCA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament.
Earning an at-large bid into the tournament, the Royals will travel to Savannah, Georgia to face off against Conference Carolinas rival No. 47 Erskine College(9-1, 18-7) on Thursday, May 6th.
The Royals defeated Erskine in their first match en route to finishing the regular season undefeated (9-0, 17-0). The teams met for the second time this season in the final round of the conference tournament. Hosting the tournament, the Flying Fleet evened the score, giving Queens its only loss of the season to win the conference title.
Head coach Brett Karpman believes the loss has been helpful during the Royals’ preparation for the regional tournament.
“This group has been very focused and hungry since the conference tournament and has been working very hard.”
Playing in the regional tournament for the first time during Karpman's three-year reign, he is enthusiastic about the experience his team will gain in the tournament.
“Experiencing NCAA play for such a young team (four freshmen, two sophomores) will aid our development.”
The winner will advance into the second round to face the weekend host, Armstrong Atlantic University, on Friday afternoon.
