Women's tennis soars in quarterfinals, tops Converse 5-1

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens women's tennis continued its perfect season Friday morning, as it rolled past #8 Converse College, 5-1, in the Quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas Women's Tennis Championship Tournament at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, South Carolina

The Royals dominated in singles action, winning 36 of the 40 games played. Elena Mileva (Sofia, Bulgaria, First Private English Language School) led the way, dominating Olivia Self in the top flight, 6-0, 6-0. Erin Williams (Arden, N.C., T.C. Roberson) conceded just one set in her win over Lindsey Kelly, while Morgan Roberts (Fort Pierce, Fla., Treasure Coast) improved to 11-0 in conference play with her 6-3, 6-0 win over Lee Cantey.

Mileva continued to steam roll opponents, teaming with Kaitlyn Blakey (Keller, Texas, Keller) to sweep Gulnora Yuldasheva and Francesca Mayer, 8-0. Williams also impressed in her second matched of the day, as she and Christina Engelberth (Stockholm, Sweden, Pendleton School IMG) ran through Cantey and Rachel Wilkes 8-2.

All top seeds found success on Friday and will advance to the semifinals: #2 Erskine shutout #7 Barton College 5 -0;  #4 Anderson over #5 Pfeiffer University 5-0; and in the closest match of the day, #3 Lees-McRae College held off #6 Mount Olive College 5-4.
 
The winners get the remainder of the day off and play tomorrow morning starting at 9:00 a.m.  #1 Queens plays #4 Anderson while #2 Erskine takes on #3 Lees-McRae in the semifinals.
 
Later this afternoon, #5 Pfeiffer plays #8 Converse while #6 Mount Olive College tackles #7 Barton College.
