CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Royals women’s golf team had one of its best outings in program history at the Agnes McAmis Memorial hosted by Tusculum at Link Hills Country Club in Greenville, Tenn. All five members of the team turned in at least one score in the 70s. Queens ended the event in fifth out of the 15-team field by shooting 619 in the two-round tournament.
Camilla Mallberg (Stockholm, Sweden, Danderyds Gymnasium) improved from 13
th after the first round to 10
th overall.
Three Royals shot in the 70s during the second round led by Mallberg with a 74 (77-74).
Julia Wennerlund (Bjarred, Sweden, Polhemskolan) carded a four-over-par (78-76) and
Mallory Ruhling (Pittsburgh, Pa. , Penn Hill) shaved off eight strokes from round one to the second round and shot 79 (87-79).
Natalie Mirra (Boxford, Mass., Heritage Academy) and
Laura Belanger (Waxhaw, N.C., Parkwood) rounded out the Royals squad with and 80 and 83, respectively. Both women carded scores in the 70s during round one, Mirra with 77 and Belanger with 78.
Queens traded spots with Anderson to finish in fifth. Queens had a one stroke edge during round one to hold fourth place, but Anderson cut out seven strokes in the second round (311-304) to end with 615. Queens dropped one stroke from play to finish with a card total of 619 (310-309).
Methodist held on to win the event with a team score of 604. Conference Carolinas school Belmont Abbey took second with 605 and Carson Newman finished third with 611.
The Royals will next play in the Conference Carolinas Championship Tournament on April 18-20 at Tanglewood Golf Club.
