Queen’s University of Charlotte men’s lacrosse is in the United States Inside Lacrosse Association’s (Inside Lacrosse) top 10 for the first time in the program’s history.
The Royals have found success early in the season, playing two nationally ranked teams en route to a 4-1 record. Queens has rebounded from losing their season opener to No. 1 Long Island C.W. Post by winning four straight including a 10-9 double-overtime victory over No. 8 St. Leo University.
Twice in the past, Queens has been ranked as high as No. 10 in preseason polls, and has even received votes during the season, but didn’t accumulate enough to crack the list.
The move into the top 10 is a major achievement for the Royals. “One of our goals this year was to be one of the best teams in D-II -- and being in the top 10 helps us realize that,” added head coach Jim Fritz.
Coming one week after
Brian Masterson (Toledo, Ohio, St. John's Jesuit) was the recipient of the Nike/Inside Lacrosse player of the week; Fritz credits his players for the program’s success.
“The players have worked hard and this is a testament to their hard work and commitment. They realize that this is just one of our goals and we are not satisfied with just making the top 10 poll."
The Royals are slated to complete against two more top-10 teams this season; conference rival, No. 5 Limestone College will visit Queens Sports Complex on March 31, as will No. 7 Mars Hill College on April 10 for Senior Day.
