Queens fourth after round one in Barton Intercollegiate

Pureum Lee leads Royals.

WILSON, N.C.-  The Queens University of Charlotte men's golf team is in fourth place after round one of the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Barton Intercollegiate Golf Tournament in Wilson, N.C. The event includes 15 teams and 15 individuals for a 90-player tournament. The Royals are seven strokes(297) behind Flagler University(290) who is in first place and ranked 21st in the nation. Flagler is just ahead of the the 10th ranked host school Barton College(293). UNC-Pembroke sits in third place after shooting a 296. 

Queens' Pureum Lee (North Vancouver, B.C., Canada, Handsworth Secondary), UNC-Pembroke's Jordan Walor, and Barton's Daniel Castleberry  broke par with 71s and are tied in fifth place. Ben Lasso (Falls Church, Va., Heritage Academy) is tied at the 24th spot with a 74 while David Bainbridge (England, Thomas Alleynes) is at 29 after shooting a 75.

Darren Smith, playing on the Barton B team, carded the day's low round with 3-under 69. He made no bogeys and had three birdies. He leads Flagler's Patrick Lamb and Chris Bray, and Coker's Jacob Murphy by one stroke. Nine players shot 72.

Play will resume Tuesday with a 10 a.m. shotgun start on the 6,851-yard, par-72 Wilson Country Club layout.
