WINGATE, N.C.- Camilla Mallberg (Stockholm, Sweden, Danderyds Gymnasium) is in first place after round one of the 10th annual J. Ralph Hargett Memorial Intercollegiate Women’s Golf tournament hosted by Wingate University. Her score of a three-over-par 75 on the par 72, 5673-yard layout helped keep the Queens University of Charlotte women's golf team in a competitve position going in to round two of the golf tournament. After today, the Royals are in seventh place out of 12 teams with a score of 338. They are 18 strokes behind the first place team, ninth-ranked Newberry College.
UNC Pembroke senior Christina Crovetti (Amesbury, Mass.) is second at 76. Both Mallberg and Crovetti shot a one-under-par 35 on the back nine Monday.
Julia Wennerlund (Bjarred, Sweden, Polhemskolan) shot an 85 placing her tied in the 25th spot overall, ten strokes behind teammate Mallberg in first place.
Natalie Mirra (Boxford, Mass., Heritage Academy),
Laura Belanger (Waxhaw, N.C., Parkwood), and
Katie Murphy (Huntersville, N.C., North Mecklenburg) rounded out the scorers for Queens finishing day one with scores of 87, 91, and 92, respectively.
The two-day event at Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation concludes Tuesday.
