SPARTANBURG, S.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team improves their record to a perfect 6-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play after defeating Converse College 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon in Spartanburg, S.C. Converse falls to 0-2 with the loss. The tennis match was the first Conference Carolinas contest for the Royals this season.
Elena Mileva (Sofia, Bulgaria, First Private English Language School) may have had the most exciting match of the day in singles play as she downed her opponent in two sets. Olivia Self of the Valkyries scored four points in the first set to lose 6-4. Mileva dominated the second set winning 6-1. Every other singles match was won in heavy favor by the Royals.
Erin Williams (Arden, N.C., T.C. Roberson) and
Christina Engelberth (Stockholm, Sweden, Pendleton School IMG) had their hands full against Rachel Wilkes and Franni Mayer of Converse in the number two spot of doubles play. The game was tied at 5-5 before the Royals took control and held off the Valkyries for the 8-5 win.
The Royals are back in action at home against Anderson University on February 19th at 2:00 p.m.
