CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Queens University of Charlotte's Men's Lacrosse Head Coach
Jim Fritz is pleased to announce the selection of
Fred Bush,
Travis Speer and
Mike Delallo as captains for the 2011 Royals.
“I think the players selected all represent what our program is all about on the field and in the classroom,” said Fritz. “I feel we have three very good leaders in the captains as we head into this season looking to build on the success of last year."
Bush is a 5'10”-183 pound senior defenseman and second year Captain from Jordan, New York. Bush, who played his high school lacrosse at Jordan-Elbridge, came to Queens after helping lead Onandoga CC to a National Championship in 2007. He also captained the OCC team that went to the final in 2008. He is a business administration major with a concentration in corporate communications and a specialization in marketing who carries a 3.0 gpa. This past year he worked for Baxter HealthCare as a global marketing of vaccination intern. Bush helped lead the 2010 Royals defense that finished with 8.69 goals against, which was good for 11th in D-II. He also finished with 19 ground balls and four caused turnovers, second on Royals in both.
Travis Speer, a 6'3”-220 pound senior midfielder from Newtown, Connecticut. Speer carries a 3.0 gpa in organizational communication and was selected to the Academic All-Conference Team last year. President of the Sports Marketing Association at Queens, he will once again run first midfield for the Royals. Last year he finished with seven goals, three assists, and 11 ground balls while helping the offense to 11.1 goals per game, 12th in DII.
Mike Delallo, a 5'8”-170 pound senior midfielder/faceoff midfielder from Syracuse, New York, will be returning as a captain. Majoring in business administration with a focus in finance, he currently sports a 3.15 gpa. The past summer he interned at Express Shipping Room Supply in Liverpool, New York as a marketing associate and financial analyst. He was an All-Conference selection as a sophomore and finished in the top ten in D-II in groundballs and faceoff win percentage in 2009. As a junior, he split time in the circle while finishing with one goal and 30 ground balls and won 54.65 percent of his face-offs.
The Royals open up their season against Dowling, a final four team in 2010 and the only team to beat National Champion CW Post, February 20th at the Queens Sports Complex.
