CHARLOTTE, N.C. (June 25, 2009) – Queens University of Charlotte’s Department of Athletics is pleased to announce a new partnership with C design Inc., as a corporate sponsor. The Charlotte based architecture firm recently designed the freshly completed Queens Welcome Center and Field House at the Queens University of Charlotte Sports Complex at Marion Diehl Park.
“Working with Queens University has been a wonderful opportunity for our firm and the project was a complete team effort by the Design Team, the Contractors and the University”, said C design Inc. Principal Rob Crane.
C design Inc., which also has worked with UNC-Charlotte, Piedmont Natural Gas, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities, YMCA of Greater Charlotte and Charlotte Douglas International Airport, came into the Queens Sports Complex design and construction in the summer of 2008 and has drafted and designed completely new spaces.
“We are delighted to have C design Inc. as one of the Royals corporate partners,” said Director of Athletics Jeannie King. “The firm did an outstanding job with our two new buildings and we look forward to continuing this relationship. Having such a prominent local organization teamed up with Queens will serve us well.”
The Welcome Center features offices for members of the coaching staff and administration, multiple meeting rooms, including a 300-person meeting space, a catering kitchen, ticket office and a concession stand. Housed inside the Welcome Center are Queens’ new Hall of Fame and trophy cases.
The Field House will be home to the Royals men’s and women’s soccer team, lacrosse teams, cross country and track teams, and softball with their own locker rooms. All of the 17 various teams at Queens will have access to a new Sports Medicine facility and a Sports Performance Center. Also featured in the field house is a President’s Box that overlooks the field for game day use and to host special events.
Queens will host their first event with the two new buildings on August 16 as the men’s soccer team takes on Francis Marion. There will be an official grand opening celebration and more information on that event will be announced at a later date.
