The women's tennis team will have five total newcomers next season.
Queens University of Charlotte is proud to announce that Head Coach Brett Karpman has added four more players to the women’s tennis team for the upcoming year. These four newcomers added to the one who signed during early signing period makes his recruiting class of five complete. These four will bring strength and power to the court which will help the women’s team compete at the top of the conference.
Christina Engelberth is a native of Stockholm, Sweden, where she attended The Pendleton School. This tennis standout lived and trained at the IMG academies for three years.
“Christina is an intense competitor that will make an immediate impact in the lineup. Her international experience will be a huge asset to her and her development”, said Coach Karpman.
Hailing from Fort Pierce, Fla., is Morgan Roberts of Treasure Coast High School.
She participated in tennis and cross country for her school. Roberts held on to the number one spot on her team all four years of her high school career in singles and doubles play. She was named the MVP of her team her entire high school career also. Roberts has been named to the All-Area Team her freshman, sophomore, and junior seasons. At the number one spot, Roberts was a district finalist her sophomore and junior years for her outstanding singles performance. In doubles play she was the district winner at the number one spot her sophomore year and a finalist her junior year. Roberts stands out in the classroom as well as on the court. She will be graduating third in her class of 480 students. Roberts will also be graduating in May 2009 from Indian River State College with and AA in Accounting. The Treasure Coast High School Scholar Athlete of the Year is a Young Floridian Candidate, the 2007-2008 District Science Fair Winner in Chemistry, and the Rotary Student of the Month for November 2008.
“Morgan is a dynamic individual. She represents the true definition of a student athlete coming to Queens with an AA Degree. She will contribute immediately in singles and doubles."
A high school tri-sport athlete by the name of Brianna “Brie” Singletary will be coming from Clayton, N.C., where she attends Clayton High School. In addition to playing tennis, she played soccer and basketball for her school. In 2008 Singletary was the recipient of the Most Valuable Singles Player Award. The All-Conference player was also the 4A Neuse River Conference Girl’s Singles Champion and Player of the Year in 2008. In 2007 she had the most singles wins and she earned the Most Improved Player Award in 2006. Singletary has recorded over 36 consecutive singles wins. Off the court, Singletary is very involved in many clubs and organizations. The Student Body President has been on the Principal’s List all four years of high school. She is also the Public Relations Vice President of DECA which is an association for marketing students. Singletary was a High Role-Play District and State Finalist and finished fourth in the Internet Marketing International Finals. She is also a member of the Clayton Youth Council, the Yearbook staff as the Business Manager, the National Honor Society, and the Johnston County Student Leadership Board.
“Brianna is a very impressive young woman. I had the opportunity to train Brie at the Adidas tennis camp hosted by Queens. She is a true team player and possesses an incredible work ethic.”
Christine Garry will be graduating from Brebeuf Jesuit Prepatory School in Indianapolis, Ind. The native
of Greenwood, Ind., has been playing varsity tennis since her sophomore year. She was given the Mental Attitude/Most Improved Award her junior year. The Admissions Ambassador has a 3.20 GPA also.
“Christine comes from a great family and tennis background. She will add depth to the squad and I am excited to watch her development on the court and in the gym.”
