CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Queens University of Charlotte is pleased to announce Elena Mileva (Sofia, Bulgaria, First Private English Language School) as the February InterCon Female Student Athlete of the Month.
“Elena is an extremely hard working person,” said head coach Brett Karpman. “She has great intensity at practice, is a true team player and spends long hours at the library studying and also perfecting her English.”
Mileva is a freshman from Sofia, Bulgaria and plans on majoring in business.
During the month of February, in singles play Mileva went a perfect 4-0 in the No. 1 spot for Queens. She gave up just two sets in four matches and recorded one 6-0, 6-0, shut out. In doubles Mileva teams up with Kaitlyn Blakey. Again, Mileva went undefeated in the No. 1 spot. The duo even recorded one 8-0 win.
Members of the sports information office caught up with Elena and asked her a few questions:
How does it feel to be Student Athlete of the month?
I am honored and I am happy with my accomplishment.
Why did you choose to attend Queens?
Because of Banking in Charlotte, and because the school offers a good tennis environment. And I enjoy coach Karpman's training.
What are your career goals?
I want to earn a degree for business and then I would like to work in a US bank, specializing in accounting.
What does it take to be academically successful at Queens?
Good time management and constant motivation.
How do you manage your demanding schedule?
Whenever you do what you want to do, a schedule is not demanding. For me, it's a pleasure to do what I do.
What is your ritual before taking a test?
I don't have a ritual before taking a test.
Any rituals before a game?
Eating breakfast with the teammate and then going to the training room. Then stretch and warm up and then ready for the match.
What is your favorite quote?
“Be you”.
What are your goals for your team this season?
To get better with every match.
What are your favorite tennis memories here at Queens?
I really enjoy being with my teammates and traveling with them. Also I like to hang out with them after every match and speak about the matches.
What is the most rewarding part about being a student athlete?
Having that feeling of freedom when I am at the court.
What is one fun fact people don't know about you?
I love joking, but nobody understands my jokes!
