CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Queens University of Charlotte Director of Athletics, Jeannie King, is pleased to announce the hiring of Ryan Peffer as the University's men's and women's head golf coach.
“I feel Ryan's experience and enthusiasm for coaching is a great fit for the Queens' golf programs,” said King. “Through his leadership at Franklin & Marshall, Ryan has demonstrated a strong commitment to excellence through academics and athletics. His contributions to Queens will set the expectations for leading our programs to the next level.”
Peffer joins the Royals family from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., where he has served as the women's head golf coach for the last two and a half years. Under his leadership the Diplomats flourished, shaving off 8.3 strokes per round and winning one tournament as a first-year head coach. During his second year, the team decreased their scoring average by 14.5 strokes, captured two tournament wins, and raised their collective gpa to 3.45. This past semester, the Diplomats added five freshmen to the roster, claimed two tournament wins, and improved an additional 29 strokes per round.
Prior to becoming the head coach in 2007, Peffer served as the assistant coach for a little less than three years. His main responsibility as the assistant coach was to serve as the primary swing and course management coach, In doing so, he helped the team to take12.4 strokes off per round and co-developed the program's first off-season physical conditioning program.
Since 2004, Peffer has filled the role of PGA senior assistant golf professional at Lancaster Country Club. During his tenure at Lancaster, he served as the club's lead golf instructor and assisted with staffing, budgeting, tournament administration, and merchandising.
The 2003 graduate of Clarion University of Pennsylvania earned Cleveland Golf/GCAA Division II All-America Scholar status while leading his team to the PSAC Championship in 2002. He also was a 3-time PSAC All-Conference selection, PSAC Championship MVP, and team captain for the Golden Eagles. As a professional, he has captured two career wins and has been a 5-time selection to the Philadelphia PGA Dick Smith Cup Team.
Peffer is a member of the Professional Golfers Association of America and the National Golf Coaches Association of America. He has served in leadership roles in the Central Counties Chapter PGA Assistants Organization (President and Secretary) and on the Philadelphia PGA/PGM Advisory Board. Peffer is also a member of the Titleist Club Professional Staff.
"I am grateful and excited about the opportunity to lead the men's and women's golf teams at Queens,” said Peffer. “There is obvious talent and tremendous potential in both programs and I look forward to challenging and coaching each player to reach even higher levels in the classroom and on the golf course."
Peffer fills a void that was created when former head coach John Handrigan left to accept a position at University of Kansas.
