CHARLOTTE, N.C.- In the second game in as many days the Queens women’s basketball team lost to Johnson C. Smith at Brayboy Gym in the second day of the Queen City Classic hosted by Johnson C. Smith.

Queens (0-2) had a strong first half, dominating the Bulls (2-0) all over the floor. The offense hit 50% of all attempts and was a perfect four-of-four from the charity stripe. The defense did their part limiting the Golden Bulls to 25% from the floor and only allowing one trip to the free throw line and the Bulls did not convert. At the break Queens was up 11, 30-19.

The Bulls started the second half hot, outscoring Queens 15-4 in the first eight minutes to tie the contest at 34 all. The surge by the host was enough for Queens, taking the lead back and holding onto it until there were just five ticks on the clock.

A free-throw tied the game at 50 and a made basket gave Johnson C. Smith the 52-50 win.

Erin Goldner (Matthews, N.C., Piedmont) led the Royals offense with 15 points and she also contributed four defensive rebounds in the effort. Marissa Hudley (Charlotte, N.C., Harding University ) tacked on 14 points and seven total rebounds. As a tea, Queens ended the game shooting 43.3% from the floor and 77% from the free-throw line, a great improvement from the 37.5% from the game the night before.

Wendy Stywalt led the Bulls with 15 points and Demetria Bell had a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds. The Bulls offense improved their shooting in the second half to 39.4% and finished the game shooting 31.9%.

Queens rests on Tuesday and opens at home against Mars Hill on Wednesday night at 5:30pm.
