CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The men’s and women’s teams defeated Bluefield College 9-0 on Saturday afternoon to continue their three game winning streaks. Queens University is 3-0 to start the season on the men’s and women’s side.
Morgan Roberts (Fort Pierce, Fla., Treasure Coast) started the Royals off winning her game against Erica Creger of the Rams with scores of 6-1 and 6-0. The Royals then went on a three game stint where the Rams didn’t score a single point as Erin Williams (Arden, N.C., T.C. Roberson), Christina Engelberth (Stockholm, Sweden, Pendleton School IMG) , and Elena Mileva (Sofia, Bulgaria, First Private English Language School) won their games 6-0. Kaitlyn Blakey (Keller, Tex., Keller) andAmanda Poole (Douglasville, Ga., South Paulding) rounded out singles play defeating their opponents to keep the Queens unbeaten.
Queens dominated doubles play as Bluefield didn’t see a single point on the courts. Engelberth and Williams led the way winning their game 8-0. Roberts and Blakey followed their lead defeating Celia Jones and Megan Randall. Rounding out doubles play was Mileva and Hewit Hawn (Naples, Fla., Community School of Naples).
On the men’s side, the Royals rolled over the Rams as they only allowed them to score one point throughout the entire match. The Rams saw that point in the third singles match between Gustavo Munhoz (Santos, Brazil, COC Universitario) and Matt Moore as Munhoz went on to win with scores of 6-1 and 6-0. Also getting wins for the Royals were Christiaan Lee-Daigle (Tecumseh, Ontario, L'Essor Secondary School), James McKinzie (Austin, Tex., Lake Travis),Raahil Dhruva (London, England, Parmiter's), and Bryce Boothby (Sudbury, Mass., Pendleton).
In doubles action, Lee-Daigle and Bloch started off with a win against Pace Snow and Tyler Eastep 8-0.Edwin Ramirez (Guayquil, Ecquador, San Jose la Salle) and Dhruva followed suit as they defeated their opponents with the same score. The third doubles match was scheduled but not played.
The Royals are back in action against Catawba College today in Salisbury, N.C., at 3:00 p.m.
