CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Saturday, October 31 marked the end of the regular season for the 2009 Conference Carolinas soccer regular season and after all games were complete in the league the Queens soccer teams found out how their post-season would shape up.
On the women’s side the Royals finished the regular season seeded fourth and will host the fifth seeded Lees-McRae at 7pm on Monday, November 2. The two teams met just one week prior and the Bobcats came away with the 2-1 win in Banner Elk, N.C. Queens finished the regular season with a record of 9-10-1 overall and 7-3-1 in league action.
The men’s team has found themselves in a very uncommon position, a season with no post season. The Royals needed Belmont Abbey to defeat Coker, and they did, but the second game that would keep the Royals in the No. 8 seed didn’t pan out. The ninth seeded St. Andrews upset fifth seeded Coker to move into a tie for the seventh seed with Mount Olive, knocking Queens into the ninth seed and on the outside of post-season play. The Royals closed the regular season 5-8-2 overall and 2-6-2 against conference opponents.
If the women’s soccer team wins on Monday, they will play again on Thursday, November 5 against the winner of the No. 1 Belmont Abbey vs. No. 8 Mount Olive contest. The game will be played at the higher seeded team’s field.
