Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University men’s soccer team scored three goals in the final 10 minutes, breaking open a close match and taking a 4-0 victory over Queens University of Charlotte Wednesday night at the WU Soccer Complex.

With the victory, the home-standing Wingate Bulldogs improve to 10-3-1 overall. Queens falls to 5-8-1 overall. The game was the final regular season game for the Royals.

Bulldog junior midfielder Luke Mulholland (Preston, England) scored the only goal the hosts would need in the 43rd minute. His unassisted tally put Wingate up 1-0 at intermission. An NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division II All-America in 2008, Mulholland leads Wingate with 11 goals this season.

Mulholland provided an assist on the next goal, as he took a pass from freshman midfielder Ruy Andrade (Brasilia, Brazil) and fed junior midfielder Adam Cunningham (Gastonia, N.C.) for a goal at the 81:59 mark. Cunningham has two goals this year.

Wingate sophomore forward Paulo Brunetto (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored in the 89th minute to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 advantage. Cunningham and sophomore midfielder Jhamie Chinn (Oviedo, Fla.) picked up assists on the close range goal.

Andrade scored his first career goal one minute later to complete the scoring. Wingate outshot Queens 21-7. Mulholland, Brunetto and senior forward Junior Nyemb (Douala, Cameroon) had four shots each for the Bulldogs. Bryan White (Delmar, N.Y., Bethlehem Central) had three total shots, all on goal, for the Royals.

Wingate freshman goalkeeper Leo Kurata (Sao Paulo, Brazil) picked up his first career victory, earning a shutout with four saves. Queens freshman goalkeeper John Rush (Jacksonville, Fla., Bolles) (Jacksonville, Fla.) stayed busy, as he posted 10 saves. Both Kurata and Rush played 90 minutes Wednesday.
