The women went 5-0.
CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The women's tennis team of Queens University of Charlotte hosted Columbia College on Saturday morning for a dual match. The Royals defeated the Koalas 9-0 in the match to complete their fall season at 5-0.
Morgan Roberts (Fort Pierce, Fla., Treasure Coast),
Christina Engelberth (Stockholm, Sweden, Pendleton School IMG),
Amanda Poole (Douglasville, Ga., South Paulding), and
Christine Garry (Greenwood, Ind., Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) defeated their opponents in two games at love in the one, two, four, and six spots respectively (6-0). Keneisha Whittington of Columbia scored a few points against
Kaitlyn Blakey (Keller, Tex., Keller) in two games of play at the number five spot. Blakey still took the win in convincing fashion winning 6-1 in the first game and 6-2 in the second.
In doubles action, the Royals pairs defeated the Koalas in all three games. Roberts and Blakey downed their opponents 8-0 in the first doubles game. Jennifer Marshall and Candace Mathews got in two points in the third game against
Hewit Hawn (Naples, Fla., Community School of Naples) and
Amber Napier (Auburndale, Fla., Auburndale). Hawn and Napier went on the win 8-2.
Queens will be working hard during their break before the spring season to improve their national rankings. The women are very strong this year and will look to make their mark in the conference.
