LAURINBURG, N.C.— Senior Galina Podolsky (Raleigh, N.C.) posted her second double-double of the season and junior Elysia Tiegs (Woodstock, Canada) had a season-high eight total blocks as host St. Andrews Presbyterian College posted a 3-0 (25-22, 27-25, 28-26) sweep over  Queens University of Charlotte on Friday night in Harris Court.

The Lady Knights (8-13 Overall; 3-8 Conf.) snapped an eight-match losing streak with the victory while the loss extends the Royals (5-16; 1-10) current slide to eight matches.

St. Andrews had its best front wall effort of the year tallying a season-best13.0 team blocks. Tiegs had a match-high eight rejections included seven block-assists. Senior Tyler Lee (Hillsborough, N.C.) and junior Leah Davison (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) each had five block assists, which was season-high marks for the blocking tandem.

Podolsky had 15 kills and 10 digs complete her double-double.

“This group of ladies is truly a pleasure to coach,” said Melissa Chaplin, SAPC first year head coach. “Tonight they finally played with confidence and showed themselves what they are capable of. I think the rest of conference play should be interesting as I feel this team has found its game.”

In a close first set, St. Andrews broke a 21-21 tie by scoring four of the final five points including a big kill by sophomore Heather Bolwerk (Appleton, Wis.) to cap the surge. Lee had four of her five block assists in the first set including one with Tiegs to set up set point.

Queens made a valiant attempt at tying the match in the middle stanza by winning the first four points and then building its largest advantage at 14-8. The Royals continued to lead 21-16 before St. Andrews went on a 7-0 outburst to catapult into the lead at 23-21. Queens rallied back and a junior Tanisha Lea (Efland, N.C.) kill put the visitors back into the lead (25-24) with a serve at set point. However, the Knights recorded the final three points on a trio of kills. Podolsky had bookend spikes between the go-ahead kill by freshman Kelly Stine (Fort Collins, Colo.).

SAPC looked poised to complete the sweep pulling out to a four-point lead (18-14) midway through the final set but Queens kept fighting and tied the score at 19-19 with a 5-1 rally. The two teams then traded points for the next seven side outs before the Knights won another extended frame with kills by Stine and Davison.

Stine just missed her fifth double-double of her rookie season. Stine directed the Knights offense with a match-high 26 assists and added lifting up nine digs. Stine and Davison contributed for five and four kills, respectively.

SAPC hit at a more efficient rate with a .110 hitting percentage compared to .028 by Queens. Bolwerk followed Podolsky's match-high 15 kill performance with 11 spikes of her own. Bolwerk was one dig short of a double-double with nine digs.

Sophomore Erica Davis (Tulsa, Okla.) served up three of the Knights seven aces on the evening.
