CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association is pleased to announce the addition of two seminars directed toward Division II coaches at this year's USTFCCCA Convention. The USTFCCCA Convention will take place December 15-18, 2008 at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa in Phoenix, Arizona.
Scott Simmons, the Head Coach of Queens University of Charlotte's Cross Country and Track and Field teams, is scheduled to discuss "Building a Division II Distance Program." Simmons is set tp speak during the second half of the Wednesday, December 17 Division II Cross Country General Session that begins at 10:00 AM. A second year coach at Queens, Simmons experienced tremendous success at the NAIA level before making the move to Division II. Simmons coached his teams to five consecutive NAIA cross country titles at two institutions (Minot State University 2002-03; Virginia Intermont College 2004-06). At Queens, Simmons coached Daniel Kanyaruhuru to three All-American honors in 2007-08, including an NCAA Division II championship in the indoor 5,000 meters.
Also on Wednesday, December 17, Lucky Huber of the University of South Dakota is scheduled to discuss "Building a Division II Jumps Program" during the second half of the Division II Track & Field General Session that begins at 1:45 PM. Now in his 14th year as the head women's track and field coach at South Dakota, Huber built a powerhouse Division II program. His athletes have earned 187 All-American honors and 10 individual national championships over that time period. Huber has worked extensively with South Dakota's jumpers during his tenure, including Olympic pole vaulter Derek Miles and NCAA long and triple jump champion Elena Swan.
