Queens runners test themselves against the best of division I.
Linville, N.C.– The Queens University of Charlotte women’s cross country team competed against Virginia Tech at McRae’s Meadow on Grandfather Mountain in a three mile race. The race was not scored and was an opportunity for both teams to begin transitioning to the 6,000 meter distance for the championship portion of the season.
First across the line for the Royals was Jessica Neville (Cold Spring, N.Y., Haldane) followed by Holly Annas (Granite Falls, N.C., South Caldwell). Katherine Carman (Terrace Park, Ohio, Ursuline Academy) and Chandler Tribble (Clinton, S.C., Laurens Academy). Rounding out the team was Sarah Khan (Miami, Fla., Hialeah Miami Lake) with a personal best time of 22:37, a one minute and ten second improvement from her last race while also being at 4200 feet altitude.
Coach Jeff Gaudette was ecstatic about the team’s transition to the longer distance and the team’s competitive nature against one of the best teams in Division I. “The girls ran really tough against some very talented runners”, said Gaudette. “I am excited about the emergence of Sarah Khan as our team’s 5th runner going into the championship portion of the season.”
The Royals will compete next at the Blue Ridge Open hosted by Appalachian State on October 17.
