Queens runners test themselves against the best of division I.
Linville, N.C.– The Queens University of Charlotte men’s cross country team competed against Virginia Tech at McRae’s Meadow on Grandfather Mountain in a three mile race. The race was not scored and was an opportunity for both teams to begin transitioning to the 10,000 meter distance for the championship portion of the season.
Michael Crouch (Yucca Valley, Calif., Yucca Valley) was Queens’ first runner to cross the finish line on the track at 4200ft with a time of 15:44 followed closely by Oscar Ogwaro (Los Angeles, Calif., Woodrow Wilson), Futsum Mebrathu (Phoenix, Ariz., North), Matt Rowell (Show Low, Ariz., Blue Ridge ) with times of 15:50. Rounding out the team was Ryan Connelly. The Queens runners had a fantastic 1-5 spread of only 20 seconds.
Head Coach Scott Simmons was pleased with the team’s effort and ability to handle the move towards the longer distance and is excited about the opportunity to improve upon its eighth place ranking at their next race, the Blue Ridge Invitational, hosted by Appalachian State University on October 17.
