HOW IT HAPPENED
Queens entered the evening coming off a thrilling 1-0 victory on the road at Stetson last weekend, scoring a goal in the second half to clinch the win. Momentum was quickly halted on Tuesday as in the opening minutes, Virginia Tech drew a foul in the box resulting in a penalty kick. Noe Uwimana converted on the opportunity for the Hokies to give VT a 1-0 lead.
In the first half, Queens struggled to find a rhythm and keep possession as they were outshot 13 to two with the Hokies accounting for 59% of possession.
However, in the second half, the Royals found their groove and started to create chances in the attacking third. Trailing 1-0,
Brock Gramann came off the bench and provided a spark with two great shots on goal that were saved by Virginia Tech's Diego Dauzier who finished the night with six saves. Perhaps the best opportunity of the second half came in the 77th minute when
Kyriakos Christodoulou crossed a ball into the box for
Iker Erazo who had a good look to score but was unable to get a foot on it.
After these missed chances, Virginia Tech put the finishing touches on their win by scoring two more goals in the 79th and 86th minute on their way to the 3-0 win.
